Edita
The European Union's sanctions mechanism, which allows for the imposition of sanctions for human rights violations, could be named after Russian political figure Alexei Navalny. This was announced by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
"We will propose to rename the human rights violation sanctions regime to the Navalny regime," he stated.
Also attending the meeting of the European Council on Foreign Affairs today will be the wife of the Russian political figure, Yulia Navalnaya. Previously, she has blamed Vladimir Putin for her husband's death.
