Man claiming to be a blogger and journalist reports attempted murder in Egypt and Yerevan

On February 16, an extraordinary incident occurred in Yerevan. This was reported by SHAMSHYAN.com. Around 10:35 AM, a call was received at the Arabkir division of the Armenian Police, stating that a citizen was sitting in a car at 83 Hovsepyan Street when an unknown individual opened the car door, struck him several times, and then attempted to stab him.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, a response team from the Arabkir police division, led by the head of the duty unit Margaryan, was dispatched to the scene. Police discovered that the victim was a 45-year-old Roman Baghdasaryan, temporarily residing on Tigran Mets Street.

He informed the police that he was sitting in a Mercedes belonging to his acquaintance Gevorg A. when an unidentified person opened the car door, punched him in the face, and claimed he was being pursued before fleeing the scene.

Baghdasaryan also mentioned to the police that a similar incident had occurred at the 'Sierra' hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, and he had reported this to the local police there.

According to website information, officers from the criminal investigation department of the Arabkir division were able to ascertain that the assailant was in an Opel vehicle, accompanied by two other individuals. After conducting operational and investigative measures, the police established that the Opel was operated by 35-year-old Hamlet S. from Aragatsotn region, who, on February 14, had made prior arrangements with two unidentified individuals to target Baghdasaryan on February 16 at around 08:10 AM. They lay in wait for him on Tigran Mets Street, pursued him, and when Baghdasaryan, driving Gevorg A.’s Mercedes, reached 83 Hovsepyan Street, one of the individuals in the Opel exited the vehicle, approached the Mercedes, opened the door, struck Baghdasaryan, issued threats, and then fled.

According to site reports, police discovered Hamlet S. in Ashtarak and arrested him on reasonable suspicion of physical and psychological influence. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the two unidentified individuals. It’s also noted that Baghdasaryan informed the police that he was a blogger and journalist.
