The deputy chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Yuri Vorobyov, is visiting Armenia with a delegation and held discussions in the parliament with Armenian counterparts regarding regional developments and challenges that concern the Armenian side. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian National Assembly.

Armenian National Assembly Vice President Hakob Arshakyan detailed the consequences of Azerbaijan's attack on Nagorno-Karabakh and Baku's policies of ethnic cleansing, noting that many humanitarian issues remain unresolved.

“Armenia expects that the Russian Federation will make efforts to return Armenian prisoners to Armenia and to preserve the Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Arshakyan stated.

The Vice President of the National Assembly also presented the complex process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that despite the challenges, Armenia is determined and possesses strong political will to achieve stable peace in the South Caucasus.

“Armenia's position remains the same. We need to establish peaceful relations based on mutual recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.

The Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia stated that Russia has always tried to support the complex political process of peacefully resolving relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and will continue to do so.

At the end of the working meeting, the Vice President of the National Assembly proposed holding the 38th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission in Dilijan in the second half of this year.
