New Surge in Tension Between Armenia and Azerbaijan - Pashinyan
A new phase of tension has emerged between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Munich, where they discussed issues related to the situation in the region.
"Regional issues are very important on our agenda. Unfortunately, we are in a new phase of tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Recently, there has been an escalation and casualties. Recently, a new surge in tension took place, which resulted in significant losses. Armenian soldiers were killed at the border with Azerbaijan. And this is a situation that I would like to discuss with you," he noted.
It was reported that starting from February 13 at 05:30, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire from small arms towards Armenian positions located in the area of Nerk’in Hand. The Armenian side sustained 4 killed and 1 wounded.
He also emphasized that Armenia values the progress that exists today between the two countries. The Armenian Prime Minister stressed that official Yerevan is ready to develop relations with the United States.
In a post on his microblog, Pashinyan wrote that they emphasized their commitment to peace and stability during the meeting.
