There Is Nothing Surprising in This Decision by Russia: Estonia's Prime Minister
The Russian authorities have announced a manhunt for several dozen political figures from the Baltic countries, accusing them of "disdaining historical memory." Estonia's Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and the country's State Secretary have been placed on a wanted list by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to Russian state news agencies, a "criminal case has been initiated against Kallas and State Secretary Timo Tatar regarding the destruction and damage of Soviet soldiers' monuments." It is noteworthy that in August 2022, the government of the Republic of Estonia made a decision to relocate monuments from the Soviet era.
Kaja Kallas has stated that there is nothing surprising in this decision by Russia. “We will continue to support Ukraine, strengthen European defenses, and fight against Russian propaganda,” Kallas wrote on the X social media platform.
The Chairman of the Estonian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Marko Mihkelson, has called for a calm response to news of Russia's actions. “This is a well-planned action against us aimed at undermining our security. It is critically important to act together with allies so that there are no successful hostile actions against us,” Mihkelson said.
