Video: After Acquiring 200 New Buses, We Will Move to Purchase 250 Electric Buses, Avinyan

We have two main achievements to accomplish this year: 200 buses measuring 8.5 meters and later 250 electric buses measuring 18 meters. This was stated by Mayor Tigran Avinyan during today’s session of the Yerevan Council, adding that negotiations are ongoing with the Government of Armenia and international financial partners regarding this matter.

“At this stage, we will be implementing the purchase of 200 buses measuring 8.5 meters this year, and we will have new bus routes. Only after that will we proceed with the purchase of 250 units of 18-meter buses. However, I want to emphasize that, despite the fact that the cost of electric buses is significantly less than that of gas, diesel, or gasoline, electric buses are still considerably more expensive in their initial price than buses powered by other types of fuel,” noted Avinyan.

He elaborated that in terms of price perspective, the amortization logic over ten years for electric buses will approximately bring the same cost as a gas-powered bus, but the main goal from an environmental standpoint will be to completely transition the entire fleet to electric.

“Our main goal will be to have entirely ‘green’ transportation in ten years,” emphasized the mayor.
