VIDEO: I hope I won't be the target of another assassination attempt for speaking out - Chakhoyan
Corruption is widespread in Yerevan and reaches absurdly large proportions, stated public activist Arthur Chakhoyan during a discussion titled "Yerevan and Corruption" in the National Assembly.
He announced that he had recorded his first victory against corruption, as the Yerevan city administration acknowledged that he was right about inconsistencies in the placement of benches in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district.
"I must note that the head of the administrative district wanted to hold me accountable," he said.
Chakhoyan presented evidence of corruption in Yerevan, which, according to him, has been executed with deficiencies or violations, and which the city hall has acknowledged and paid for.
He also noted that technical inspections are not being carried out properly. "You can’t move a single matchstick without the knowledge of the relevant officials at the Yerevan city hall," he stated.
While examining the property of the former head of the Yerevan Construction Department, Khoren Grigoryan, Chakhoyan discovered assets of unknown origin. "He has built a luxurious villa in Artashat; it's unclear what means he used and has allowed himself luxuries in Arabkir. How does this man sign those documents, and doesn't anyone have doubts about how he acquired so much property? Where is it coming from? I hope that for speaking out so much, I will not be the target of another assassination attempt," he said.
