Erdogan Confirms That the US Will Sell F-16 Fighter Jets to Ankara
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has discussed a successful agreement regarding the sale of F-16 fighter jets with Washington. The Turkish leader made this statement following a government meeting held under his presidency in Ankara. The broadcast was carried out by TRT Haber television.
"We are pleased that our request regarding the F-16 has resulted in a positive decision from the US. After the lifting of restrictions, the Turkish defense industry will develop more intensively," said Erdogan.
Previously, the US announced the approval of the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey. Ankara submitted its request to purchase the aircraft on January 26, after which the US Congress moved quickly to approve the Turkish request. Notably, only Republican Senator Rand Paul opposed the supply of the fighter jets.
