Armed Robbery in Artik City
Today, February 9, an armed robbery with masked assailants took place in the Shirak region. Around 10:30 AM, operational information was received at the Shirak provincial garrison of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ police patrol service and at the Shirak regional police department, indicating that an armed robbery had occurred in Artik city. At the scene, a gas pistol magazine was found. The incident occurred in Artik city. The victim, M. Melikyan, a resident of Artik, along with his wife and son, were at the address 8 Independence Street in Artik when an Opel Astra vehicle approached. Four masked individuals exited the vehicle and claimed to be law enforcement officers, stating that they needed to take the victims to the police station.
They then brandished a gun at the victims and stole a substantial amount of gold jewelry. The stolen jewelry was reportedly to be delivered to a pawn shop by the victims today. Following this, two of the masked individuals forcibly put the victims into the vehicle and drove towards another direction in Artik city, where they continued to assault the victims inside the vehicle. The assailants then forced the victims out of the vehicle, during which time one of the masked individuals fired several shots from his gun.
It was revealed that the injured party, 32-year-old Mher M. from the Shirak region, reported that he sustained injuries due to being struck on the head with the butt of a firearm near the same address on Independence Street in Artik. The stolen jewelry is valued at approximately $85,000.
