VIDEO. "We should have done this earlier, but it's good that we are doing it now," says Pashinyan
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced at a government meeting that in cases of modular technologies, an incident at a nuclear reactor is considered a localized event. He mentioned that he was informed about this by the nuclear safety regulation committee.
According to the Prime Minister, this means that if a modular nuclear power plant is constructed and there is a residential area nearby, residents are not evacuated in the event of an accident, as it does not pose a threat to the surrounding population. "One of the advantages of this technology is exactly this; citizens need to be informed about it," the Prime Minister stated.
Pashinyan emphasized that this issue has been discussed in the Security Council, and a decision has been made to proceed with signing the necessary agreements. "We are studying all possible options to determine which is most aligned with Armenia's interests; at this moment, we cannot have a final decision," he added.
According to him, it is now urgent to strengthen the institutional capacities of the nuclear safety regulation committee. "We should have done this earlier, but it's good that we are doing it now," he concluded.
