Video: We See Issues in the Constitution We Have, Says Vahagn Aleksanyan
We see the issues in the Constitution we have, and these issues are numerous. This was stated today, February 8, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly by Vahagn Aleksanyan, a deputy from the My Step Alliance.
“The first issue is the legitimacy of the Constitution, because almost everyone in the political field of Armenia, except for the former authorities, has always recorded that constitutional referendums were conducted with numerous electoral violations, and under no circumstances can a Constitution passed with such changes be considered legitimate. This is already a problem, living under a Constitution that is not legitimate.
Secondly, there is a need for constitutional change and a change in mindset, as well as the necessity of enshrining Armenia as an absolute value,” he stated.
When asked if changing the Constitution is related to removing references to the Declaration of Independence, he responded, “Yes, there are points we are talking about, including the reference to the Declaration of Independence. We are openly discussing this with the public, no matter how much manipulation, lies, and falsifications come from political forces governed by a specific country. It is unequivocal that Armenia must have a Constitution that serves Armenia, not one written under the dictates of some empire, during the conditions of its collapse, in order to lay landmines under Armenia so that if one day the empire decides that it must reunite, those mines will work.”
“My impression is that there are points that are inserted. The Constitution states that Armenia must fulfill the aspirations of the Armenian people. Now let someone explain to me how Armenia can simultaneously satisfy the aspirations of both the Armenian community in Russia and the Armenian community in the United States. From the perspective of the Armenian state, should there be an equal sign between the aspirations of the citizens of Armenia and those of people who are our compatriots but live outside Armenia? I think it is not normal to put that equal sign,” he concluded.
