Two Members of Yerevan Council Retain Their Mandates
In an extraordinary session of the Yerevan Council, the council was unable to strip member Gevorg Stepanyan from the 'Mother Armenia' faction of his mandate, with a vote count of 32 in favor and 2 against. "The proposal was not accepted because it did not gather enough votes," said Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
Similarly, the proposal to prematurely terminate the powers of Zaruhi Postanjyan, another member of the 'Mother Armenia' faction, was also not accepted with a count of 31 in favor and 2 against. She retained her council mandate.
It is noted that the council has 65 mandates, and to pass a bill, at least 33 votes are required. Earlier, by a majority of votes, council mandates were taken away from members Narine Hayrapetyan and Sona Aghekyan of the 'Mother Armenia' faction, as well as from the leader of the 'National Progress' faction, Haik Marutyan.
