Tucker Carlson May Face EU Sanctions for Interview with Putin
American journalist Tucker Carlson could be included in the EU sanctions list for his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported to Newsweek by current and former members of the European Parliament.
European Parliament member and former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt believes that the interview with the Russian leader could make Carlson a target for EU lawmakers. He expressed the opinion that the journalist is the “mouthpiece” for former President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Verhofstadt added that the EU imposes sanctions on “everyone who helps” the Russian leader. “It would make sense for the European External Action Service to investigate his case,” the European lawmaker stated.
Former European Parliament member Louis Garicano agreed with Verhofstadt, telling Newsweek that Carlson can no longer be considered a journalist as he has become a “propagandist.”
In turn, another European lawmaker, Urmas Paet, commented on the interview, stating that one can “find themselves on the sanctions list” for promoting the position of the Russian authorities. “This primarily applies to entry bans for EU countries,” Paet concluded.
