«Gardman-Shirvan-Nakhichevan» Pan-Armenian Union Welcomes U.S. Senators' Resolution
«Gardman-Shirvan-Nakhichevan» Pan-Armenian Union has welcomed the resolution introduced by U.S. Senators concerning the human rights situation in Azerbaijan and the reassessment of U.S. support.
The statement notes: “It has become known that U.S. Senators Ed Markey and Bill Cassidy have presented a bipartisan resolution calling for a corresponding report on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan. The anticipated report could serve as a basis for Congress to alter or suspend U.S. security assistance to Azerbaijan.
The resolution demands that the Secretary of State provide detailed information regarding human rights violations within Azerbaijan as well as ethnic cleansing resulting from military operations in Artsakh.”
Other senators have also joined the resolution, including Marco Rubio, Gary Peters, Elizabeth Warren, Sheldon Whitehouse, Bob Menendez, and Peter Welch.
“Gardman-Shirvan-Nakhichevan” Pan-Armenian Union welcomes the initiative of U.S. senators. We agree with Senator Ed Markey's emphasis that the need to hold the Azerbaijani government accountable has long matured. Furthermore, the international community has been delayed in terms of initiative and concrete, decisive actions.
We have repeatedly noted that the disproportionate response to the crimes committed by Azerbaijan has led the Azerbaijani president to believe that international law is only for weak countries, and that Azerbaijan is now so powerful that it can ignore the principles of international law without facing consequences. This reality is practically expressed as a criminal factor, leading to atrocities such as ethnic cleansing or cultural genocide.
