Russia Firmly Condemns US Strikes on Syria and Iraq, Says Zakharova

Russia firmly condemns the US strikes on Syria and Iraq and is seeking an urgent discussion of the situation at the UN Security Council, stated Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to her, the use of strategic bombers by the US in the territories of Iraq and Syria represents a complete disregard for international law norms by Washington. "We strongly condemn the new glaring actions of American-British aggression against sovereign states. We are now attempting to achieve an urgent discussion of the situation created by the UN Security Council," Zakharova's statement reads.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the airstrikes are intended to further provoke the conflict.

It is noted that earlier today, the US announced that in response to an attack on its military base in Jordan, it targeted more than 85 sites associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and related formations in Iraq and Syria.
