Iraqi Kurds Attack American Base in the Country
Iraqi Shiite groups, as part of the Islamic resistance front in Iraq, have announced an attack on the American "Harir" military base located in Iraqi Kurdistan (Northern Iraq). This was stated in a message on their Telegram channel, as reported by "RIA Novosti".
The attack reportedly occurred after U.S. Air Force strikes targeted areas in western Iraq and along the Syrian border in response to an assault on an American base in Jordan.
The group stated that through this action, they are continuing to confront the "American occupying forces in Iraq" and the Middle East, as well as responding to Israeli action in the Gaza Strip.
The declaration mentions that "fighters of the Iraqi Islamic resistance attacked the U.S. occupation base on February 3, 2024, using a drone." On the night of January 28, a drone targeted an American military base near the Syrian and Jordanian borders.
As noted by CNN, this marks the first occasion since the onset of the conflict in Gaza that U.S. armed forces have suffered personnel losses following enemy shelling. In retaliation, U.S. forces have struck more than 85 targets in Iraq and Syria belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and affiliated forces.
