Over 40 Trucks Stuck in Stepanavan Loops: Clarification
Today, February 1, an emergency situation has arisen in the Lori region. According to shamshyan.com, the cause is the insufficient work of certain road service providers. While the entire stretch of road from Ararat to the Lori region has been cleared and traffic is safe, local road service providers have made substantial efforts to clear the roads from snow and spread salt and sand on ice patches, which has helped regulate traffic. However, the road from the beginning of Stepanavan tunnel to Tashir has become a nightmare due to icy conditions.
Since yesterday, patrol officers from the Lori battalion of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs have been on duty in the mentioned area. Currently, there is a backlog of more than 40 trucks.
The police allow 15 trucks and smaller vehicles to pass every 20 minutes, and thanks to this service, the congestion has been cleared in a short time. Additionally, rescuers and patrol officers have pulled over 30 vehicles out from the snowdrifts.
The Road Department informed Auroranews that road cleaning operations are underway, and articulated vehicles are now being allowed through. The contractor responsible for this section has consistently failed to perform their duties, and the process of terminating the contract with the service provider is beginning. No payment has been made to the contractor for the entire month of January.
