Video: 'The Children Are Left Idle' – Parents Support Teachers at the Ministry of Education
Parents came to the Ministry of Education and Science today, January 30, in support of teachers. In an interview with journalists, a parent of a student from the village of Horbadec in the Vayots Dzor province stated that teachers are being dismissed from the school but no replacements have been found yet.
“There are 4 teachers from our school currently in a problematic status; they are the ones who have not passed this transitional phase. I have reviewed the tests and know how complicated and time-restricted they have been. The children are left idle, and I am unable to explain things to them, as there are no replacements for their teachers. They suggest conducting classes remotely, but in many cases, there is no electricity or connection. You enter the classroom and see what your child is occupied with; it stresses you out. Your child has opened the Art books and is waiting for their teacher,” said one of the parents.
It should be noted that teachers with intermediate vocational education who failed to meet the mandatory certification threshold and have been dismissed since December 2023 have been protesting for a month, claiming that teachers who scored above 50% but below 60% in the certification process were granted a third opportunity to retake it, while they were not afforded that chance.
Teachers have met several times with Tamara Sargsyan, head of the Ministry of Education's General Education Department, and have addressed an open letter to the Prime Minister, yet the issue remains unresolved.
