Do We Have a Chance of Existence in the Next 10,000 Years? Putin
During a videoconference at the inauguration ceremony of a new winter complex at the Russian Vostok station in Antarctica, Russian President Vladimir Putin posed the question of whether humanity has a chance of existing in the next 10,000 years.
In his speech, Putin noted that unique technologies for deep glacier drilling, developed as early as the 1970s, revealed that there have been 4 complete climatic cycles from warming to glaciation over the last 420,000 years.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed interest in knowing what era humanity is currently in. “It would be interesting to know which period we are in and at what point this glaciation or warming will reach... I really hope that not only we, but the entire planet will continue to exist,” he stated.
In response, Putin inquired, “Does humanity have a chance of existing in the next 10,000 years?”
Both leaders were reassured by Alexander Kozlov, Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment. “We are in an interglacial period, which guarantees 20,000 years of warmth. We have already passed the 10,000-year mark, and we still have 10,000 years of guaranteed warmth ahead,” he said.
“That is normal, everything is fine,” responded the Russian president.
