Baku Postpones Dutch Foreign Minister's Visit to Azerbaijan; Reasons Revealed
Baku has postponed the visit of Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruijns Slot to Azerbaijan. This was announced by the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aihan Hacizade, commenting on the statements made by the Dutch Foreign Minister in parliament.
According to him, once again the Dutch official has made accusatory statements, clearly distorting the declarations of the Azerbaijani side. As noted by Hacizade, such statements from Hanke Bruijns Slot are unacceptable.
“These irresponsible opinions are not being heard for the first time from officials of European countries. These statements are attempts to interfere in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs and are indicative of a biased approach to post-conflict realities in the region,” emphasized Hacizade.
He noted that “such statements, as well as threatening declarations about imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan, are detrimental to bilateral relations and to the relations between Azerbaijan and the EU.”
“Regarding the intention of the Dutch Foreign Minister to visit Azerbaijan, it is known that this visit has been postponed at our initiative. The Azerbaijani side has informed the Dutch side that it intends to discuss not the resolution process between Azerbaijan and Armenia or Azerbaijan’s internal issues, but only bilateral relations. We urge the Dutch side to cease making such statements,” Hacizade stressed.
