New Records of Landmines in Artsakh to Be Transferred to Azerbaijan: Armenian NSS

The Republic of Armenia, reaffirming its commitment to the peace agenda with Azerbaijan and based on humanitarian considerations, has transferred 972 records (forms) of the landmines located in the territory of Artsakh to representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 12, July 3, October 19, November 1, and November 29, 2021, according to the Armenian National Security Service (NSS).

“Following this unilateral humanitarian step, the Republic of Azerbaijan has launched an informational campaign, accusing the Republic of Armenia of providing inaccurate and incomplete records, using the humanitarian action to incite hatred. Representatives of the Republic of Armenia have repeatedly stated at both public and operational levels that there are simply no higher quality maps available,” the NSS reported. “The transferred maps were obtained through former Artsakh military personnel.”

Recently, after several reports from Azerbaijani media regarding bodily injuries to Artsakh citizens due to landmine explosions and following the negotiations between the Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 7, 2023, an agreement has been reached to take tangible steps towards building trust between the two states. As a result, the NSS has resumed inquiry efforts among former Artsakh servicemen, leading to the discovery of eight new records.

These records will be transferred to the Azerbaijani side through working channels in the coming days. Copies of them will be handed over to international partners,” the statement emphasizes.
