Lipid Melikjanyan, Judge of the Court of Cassation, Interrogated in Rubén Vardazaryan Case

The "Zhoghovurd" newspaper reports that Liparit Melikjanyan, a judge in the anti-corruption chamber of the Court of Cassation, has been summoned and questioned by the Anti-Corruption Court. He was interrogated as a witness in the criminal case against former Supreme Judicial Council president Rubén Vardazaryan. It is noteworthy that Melikjanyan was previously a member of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Rubén Vardazaryan is accused of obstructing the administration of justice. According to the indictment, starting from July 19, 2019, while holding the position of president of the Supreme Judicial Council, he, as the head of the judicial authority, intervened in the administration of justice by the judge of the court of general jurisdiction of Lori region, Andranik Simonian.

According to Simonian's report, Vardazaryan approached him concerning the case of Vahagn Abgaryan, who is known as “Alaverdi Vahagn.” Vahagn Abgaryan is accused of organizing the murder of Kamo Piruzyan, a resident of Alaverdi, as well as of bribing to act in his interest in the murder case. The case also includes a recording, which, according to the indictment, shows that he contacted Andranik Simonian via the Signal application, trying to persuade him to change Abgaryan's pre-trial measure from detention.
