Protest Against New Migration Law Begins in Paris
Several thousand people have gathered for a march against a new law tightening immigration regulations, which its opponents describe as a "victory for the far-right." They are demanding that President Emmanuel Macron refrain from signing the text, reports a РИА Новости correspondent.
Among the protesters are many individuals from African countries. They chant slogans such as "France is a country of solidarity" and "Documents for all illegal immigrants." Opponents of the new law, which aims to tighten immigration rules, want to influence the country's Constitutional Council, which is set to make a decision on compliance with constitutional norms on January 25.
The march is taking place at the call of trade unions, cultural, scientific, and religious figures, and numerous left-wing associations and parties, including the Socialists (PS), France Defiant (LFI), Communists (PCF), and Greens (EELV). A total of 201 people have signed the call for the march. According to Monde, there are approximately 160 protests happening across France on Sunday against the new law.
