Video: Large Protest in Russia, Arrests Made

A protest is taking place in the center of Ufa in support of Fail Alsinov. The attendees are singing Bashkir folk songs and performing round dances. Several individuals have been detained by the police.

On the previous day, Bashkir activists called on the region's residents to protest near the monument of Salavat Yulaev in Ufa. This morning, even before the arrival of the first participants, Rosgvardiya and OMON officials had gathered at the central square of the city, according to the SotaVision Telegram channel. According to the publication's correspondent, around two thousand people have gathered in the center of Ufa.

The authorities began detaining protesters from the start of the demonstration. On January 17, the Baymak Court sentenced one of the most prominent leaders of Bashkir nationalism, Fail Alsinov, to four years in prison.

Alsinov was prosecuted due to a speech delivered in Bashkir during one of the popular gatherings in spring 2023; investigators noted that his speech contained 'expressions that negatively assess groups of people, specifically residents of the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Armenians.'
