Video: There's No Car at Night, Yet We Wait 2 Minutes at the Traffic Light; Smart Traffic Lights Need to Be Implemented - Pashinyan
The construction of road intersections within the city, particularly the Circus intersection and the Republic Square near the Hayrenik Cinema, is not only a long-term closure for construction but also fails to yield positive effects that would justify it, stated Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a government meeting.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed this topic by highlighting, "In terms of junctions, the one ranging from Myasnikyan Boulevard to the Circus is actually very convenient, as cars are moving without traffic lights. However, the entire road flows without traffic lights, which may seem fast; the return journey, around Khanjian Street, is plagued by short stops at traffic lights, leading to prolonged delays due to congestion. It is impossible to manage this at the Circus intersection." He emphasized that the implementation of smart traffic lights would be significant for improving the situation. "Look, at night, there are no cars on the road, yet we wait 2 minutes at the traffic light. The goal of a smart traffic light is to analyze the necessity of how long cars should wait," he said.
