Lavrov Explains Why the '3+3' Format is Considered Prospective

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov considers the '3+3' regional consultative platform a promising format for cooperation. He made this statement during a press conference today.

According to him, the Russian side has proposed to develop more actively the cooperation mechanism between the three South Caucasian countries—Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia—and their three major neighbors—Russia, Turkey, and Iran.

“There have been several meetings, with Armenian representatives also participating. I think that over time this format will be promising, as it does not depend on any global geopolitical changes and is free from the geopolitical game of preserving hegemony that Washington is currently developing with its partners in Brussels,” Lavrov said.

Previously, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan considered the '3+3' format an effective platform for discussing regional issues. The platform involves the participation of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. Georgia continues to refuse to join this platform.
