Dynamic Increase in Mortality Cases Recorded by the Ombudsman in the Military Over the Last 4 Years
In the last four years, the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has recorded a dynamic increase in mortality cases in the Armed Forces. This was stated by Andranik Yeghoyan, head of the Department for the Protection of Rights of Servicemen and Their Families at the Human Rights Defender's Office, during a press conference.
“In 2018, there were 63 recorded deaths, 49 in 2019, 54 in 2020, 58 in 2021, 64 in 2022, and more in 2023,” he noted.
The same situation applies to self-harm cases, with 65 incidents in 2020, 77 in 2021, and 108 in 2022. “When we talk about the deaths of servicemen during peacetime, questions related to discipline immediately come to mind. This is the most profound issue that has existed for years and still persists,” Yeghoyan emphasized.
