Video: Security Forces Use Brutal Force to Disperse Protest in Bashkortostan, Injuries Reported

In Bashkortostan, security forces are using brutal force to disperse a massive protest. Participants have gathered near the court to show support for civic activist Fail Alsinov, who was sentenced to four years in prison today on charges of inciting hatred or hostility.

Reports indicate that security forces are wielding batons, using stun grenades and tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters demanding Alsinov's release, with several injuries reported. According to unconfirmed information, more than 20 people have been detained.

A criminal case was initiated against the activist last August, following a complaint filed by personally Bashkortostan's leader, Radiy Khabirov. The case is based on Alsinov's speech, in which investigators allege he made negative remarks about groups of people.

This speech occurred during a protest action against the illegal mining of gold, which has led to the destruction of agricultural land and water pollution. During the action, Alsinov also stated, “while the Bashkirs are fighting in Ukraine, their lands are being seized in Bashkortostan.”
