This is an unfounded and irresponsible claim: Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry

The spokesperson for Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, Ayhan Hajiyev, has characterized the statements made by the head of the European Union representation in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Mikhelko, regarding the judicial system in Azerbaijan as unfounded.

Hajiyev shared his views on X social media platform. Azerbaijani media outlets relay this information.

"This is an unfounded and irresponsible claim. It would be better if the ambassador focused on the absence of justice and the harsh treatment within the judicial systems of certain countries. Interference in Azerbaijan's judicial system, which is built on the best international practices, is unacceptable," the statement reads.

It should be noted that Peter Mikhelko had recently published remarks expressing shock at the degrading treatment of certain journalists arrested in Azerbaijan, specifically highlighting the case of young women who were handcuffed in the courtroom, placed in glass cages, or denied basic human necessities. He emphasized that everyone has the right to dignified and respectful treatment.
