Operations of Several Structural Units of the Penitentiary Service Suspended

Based on the amendment to the Law on the Penitentiary Service, dated October 23, 2023, and signed by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Grigor Minasyan, the operations of several structural units of the Penitentiary Service have been suspended. New structural units have been created, and the number of positions has been reduced and redefined. This information was reported by the Penitentiary Service.

Thus, the activities of the operational units of the central body of the Penitentiary Service and all penitentiary institutions have been terminated, and their positions have been reduced. In their place, an Operational Department of the central body of the Penitentiary Service has been established, along with territorial units and subdivisions located within the penitentiary institutions.

According to the relevant orders of the head of the Penitentiary Service, Justice Colonel Ambakum Grigoryan, the officers occupying the positions of the aforementioned dissolved units have been released from their positions. Some of them have been appointed to corresponding positions within the Operational Department, while others have been registered in the personnel reserve of the Penitentiary Service.

Considering the unique characteristics of the “Abovyan” penitentiary facility, for the first time, the responsibilities of the head of the operational unit have been assigned to a female officer as part of these personnel changes.
