Mariam Z.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Baymaksky Court in Bashkortostan to support activist Fail Alsinov, who is accused of inciting hatred. According to BBC, the attendees chanted slogans like "Freedom for Alsinov" and "Azatlik". They also shouted, "Freedom, we are with you," and called for the resignation of regional leader Radiy Khabirov. The police did not intervene in the proceedings.

Approximately 5,000 people assembled near the court. In 2023, Alsinov actively participated in protests against gold mining in Bashkortostan, as well as against the employment of migrants in the mines. According to investigation data, in April 2023, during a gathering in the village of Ishmurzi, the activist delivered a speech in Bashkir that included statements negatively evaluating groups of people, including those from the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Armenians.

The publication notes that the activist is specifically accused of using the term "kara halak," which literally translates to "black people" but is used in modern Turkic languages to refer to the common populace.
