Tiran Khachatryan Has Not Yet Been Charged, Lawyer Says
The former deputy chief of the Armed Forces General Staff, Tiran Khachatryan, remains under arrest, and as of now, no charges have been filed against him. This was stated by Tiran Khachatryan's lawyer, Varazdat Harutyunyan, in a conversation with Sputnik Armenia.
“There have been no changes in Tiran Khachatryan's case. He is still under arrest, the 72 hours of arrest have not yet expired, and no charges have been filed. The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has initiated a criminal proceeding, but the course of the case will show whether charges will be brought and, if so, what articles will be invoked,” the lawyer emphasized.
Harutyunyan revealed that four other individuals have also been arrested in this case but did not disclose their identities. “I can provide general comments, but I cannot go into details. Understanding that there is public interest, I have committed to present any updates publicly. Since there have been no changes in procedural matters during this time, I refrain from making further comments. Let the preliminary investigation proceed, and let the investigator work to obtain a normal, objective picture,” the lawyer highlighted in the interview with the media.
It is noteworthy that according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a 47-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds during an incident in the Kotayk region. The perpetrator was arrested in one of the hotels in the Jruvjeh neighborhood.
The former deputy chief of the Armed Forces General Staff was arrested yesterday, January 12. According to media reports, on January 11, there was a dispute among about ten individuals at a restaurant near “Erik.” During the incident, Tiran Khachatryan allegedly fired shots with an awarded weapon, injuring Artsakh resident Hrayr Mnatsakanyan, who was subsequently taken to the hospital.
