Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Displeased with the Report of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has expressed dissatisfaction with the report of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, following her visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The ministry stated that the observations in Mijatović's report are allegedly not impartial. "It is regrettable that the report references the so-called blockade of the Lachin corridor, which is far from reality and has not been recognized by the International Court of Justice (ICJ)," the statement says.
According to Baku, the report minimizes Azerbaijan's actions during the events of September 2023, which Baku calls an "anti-terrorist operation." The Azerbaijani side notes that they expected the Council of Europe Commissioner to provide observations based on impartiality, equality, and the universality of all human rights.
In reviewing the results of the visit, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry emphasized that there is a lack of complete fairness and impartiality in the commissioner’s observations. The Azerbaijani side has once again asserted that it has presented evidence of systematic abuse by Armenia along the Lachin corridor over the past three years, which it claims violates the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020, and international law.
“Ultimately, it is important to note that Azerbaijan has invited the commissioner to visit the region, hoping that she will make observations based on neutrality, impartiality, equality, and the universality of all human rights. Highlighting the results of the visit, Azerbaijan emphasizes that the commissioner’s observations lack complete fairness and impartiality,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's statement concludes.
