Why London Strikes Yemen: UK Foreign Office Explains

The United Kingdom has participated in strikes against the ‘Ansar Allah’ (Houthi) movement in northern and central Yemen, in cooperation with the United States, aimed at ensuring the safety of its ships and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. This was announced by UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron on his social media page.

“The safety of British vessels and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea are of paramount importance, which is why we are taking action,” he wrote.

Previously, a member of the Houthi movement's Supreme Political Council, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, stated that the strikes from Washington and London towards Yemen have become “terrorist barbarism and premeditated aggression.” Earlier, the US had accused Iran of preparing attacks on commercial vessels by Houthis in the Red Sea.
