Vehicle Imports to Armenia Increased in 2023, Then Decreased

In 2023, vehicle imports to Armenia increased by 83% compared to the previous year. This was announced during a press conference by Karen Tamazyan, the Deputy Head of the Armenian State Revenue Committee, who summarized the annual results of the Committee for 2023.

“If around 46,000 vehicles were imported into Armenia in 2022, then in 2023, approximately 84,000 were imported, reflecting an increase of 83%,” he said.

According to him, the reason for this spike was the sanctions imposed on Russia, which led to a halt in vehicle imports from third countries into Russia. “Often, the increase was also due to vehicles being imported by Armenian resident companies and exported to EAEU countries. Despite some changes in the vehicle disposal fee in Russia starting from August 1, 2023, which significantly increased the fees for vehicles imported from Russia, we have observed a decrease in the rate of vehicle imports since August 2023,” Tamazyan elaborated.

He added that in 2023, compared to 2022, there was an increase in revenue collected by customs from the import of vehicles from third countries, as well as a rise in imports of household and computer technology, tobacco products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and fuel commodities, including gasoline, diesel fuel, and others.
