State Revenue Committee on Border Checkpoints with Georgia, Iran, and Turkey
The vehicle throughput at the Bagratashen checkpoint on the Armenian-Georgian border could double by the end of 2024. This was stated by Karen Tamazyan, the Deputy Chairman of the RA State Revenue Committee, during a press conference.
According to him, renovation works are currently underway at the checkpoint, with a division of zones for freight and passenger transport being implemented. In addition, a unified standard is being introduced in the procedures for inspecting goods and controlling their release, which will also significantly accelerate the release of cargo.
At another checkpoint on the border with Georgia, in Gogavan, renovation works are currently in progress. As for the Meghri border checkpoint with Iran, Tamazyan noted that it is undergoing major reconstruction to meet modern international standards. The work here is expected to be completed later, in 2026.
Referring to the Margara border checkpoint with Turkey, Tamazyan reminded that it has been completely renovated and is ready for operation, equipped with all the technical means for passport control, ensuring that passengers are serviced at an appropriate level.
