The Yerevan Metro fleet will be expanded. On January 15, another set consisting of 3 cars will be put into operation, becoming the fourth set made up of 3 cars.
In an interview with Armenpress, Babken Sedrakyan, the director of the Yerevan Metro, happily noted that 2023 has been quite a successful year for the metro system: "In 2023, with the savings made by the metro, approximately 1 billion 41 million drams, we have procured 8 single units, escalator spare parts, train spare parts, communication and switch device spare parts, as well as other goods and materials. The government of Armenia has provided funding for the acquisition of 14 powerful ventilation systems, 16 single units, and 4300 meters of rail," he stated.
Sedrakyan mentioned that due to the acquisition of new spare parts, the metro fleet will soon welcome a renovated fourth train, resulting in a fleet consisting of approximately 32 cars, of which 9 will have two cars, 4 will have three cars, and 2 will have one car each.
Referring to the planned activities for 2024, the Metro director pointed out that one of the most important tasks for the upcoming year is the commencement of the construction tender for the Ajapnyak station of the Yerevan Metro. In 2024, it is expected to acquire 15 new train sets, and the Youth station will have new lighting.
Discussing the unified payment system, Sedrakyan emphasized that the implementation of the system is progressing in phases. This year, the metro plans to create parking lots near stations leading to the city center.
