Only Electric Vehicles Will Be Exempt from Parking Fees in Red Zones
As of January 1, parking fees in Yerevan have increased significantly. Instead of the previous annual rate of 12,000 drams, drivers will now have to pay 160,000 drams for parking in red zones.
This change has raised numerous questions among drivers, particularly regarding electric, hybrid, and other types of vehicles. The Municipality informed Auroranews that only electric vehicles will be exempt from parking fees in red zones. Drivers of hybrid or other types of vehicles will still be subject to the new fee structure.
"Currently, the Transport Department of the Yerevan Municipality is updating its database. The list of exempt electric vehicles will be clarified shortly," the municipality said.
The municipality also explained why hybrid or other types of vehicles are still subject to parking fees while electric vehicles are not. "The reasoning is as follows: hybrid vehicles cause emissions that are detrimental to the environment, whereas electric vehicles produce no emissions. Therefore, there is no differentiation between a hybrid vehicle driver and a typical gasoline vehicle driver," they clarified.
