This is the Issue Where Maximum Clarity is Needed: Mirzoyan
During a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister of Greece, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on the progress of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He stated that the latest proposals presented by the Azerbaijani side regarding the peace treaty (at the end of December) show both certain regressions in several articles and some progress in other areas.
On January 4, the Armenian side transmitted its proposals regarding the text of the peace treaty to Azerbaijan. "We have worked very constructively on these proposals and sent our suggestions, which are again very constructive," said Mirzoyan.
According to him, the principles that the peace treaty will ultimately be based on are crucial. "The countries must recognize each other's territorial integrity without any deviation or ambiguity. This is the issue where maximum clarity is needed, and the final peace agreement must ensure this clarity," said Mirzoyan.
The minister emphasized that while the delimitation process may take a long time, the peace treaty should at least contain clear foundations on which the delimitation process can proceed later. He reiterated that territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and subsequent delimitation are issues where Armenia cannot allow any ambiguity, as such uncertainty is a breeding ground for future aggressions.
"If we establish peace, we are establishing a peace that is difficult and as impossible as possible to undermine and violate; the treaty should not contain grounds for future escalations," Mirzoyan added.
