No, 1 Meter Beyond Yerevan is Still Yerevan: Aghazaryan to Deputy Minister of Finance

In a session of the National Assembly Economic Affairs Committee, the draft law on "Amendments and Supplements to the Tax Code" was discussed.

According to Deputy Minister of Finance Armen Poghosyan, the adoption of the draft law aims to promote economic activity in the regions, as well as to address the issue of acquiring apartments through servicing mortgage loans in the capital and surrounding regions, which necessitates zoning.

Committee member from the ruling party, MP Hovik Aghazaryan, raised questions regarding the draft law, expressing his disagreement. Aghazaryan stated that he had declared four years ago that this law is terrible and that it should be abandoned.

The deputy minister and representatives of other relevant bodies justified that construction is the locomotive of the Armenian economy and that such amendments in the tax code are necessary.

“We are steering a ship and making sharp turns; sharp turns will create turbulence. Now you say that one meter beyond Yerevan is already in Aragatsotn Province, and 40 kilometers beyond that is also in Aragatsotn Province. No, one meter beyond Yerevan is still Yerevan, and 40 kilometers beyond that is Aragatsotn Province. Why are you acting so abruptly? They will completely fly out. Is zoning now being done?” Aghazaryan said.
