Major Political Scandal in Poland
A major political scandal has erupted in Poland. The Polish police have arrested former Minister of Internal Affairs Mariusz Kamiński and his deputy Maciej Wąsik in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw during a ceremony for the appointment of advisors to the country’s leader, Andrzej Duda. This was reported by the Associated Press and relayed by lenta.ru.
Kamiński and Wąsik were found guilty of abusing their powers in connection with events dating back to 2007. In 2015, President Duda pardoned them. However, the current Polish authorities assert that the head of state did not have the right to do so.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed all heads of Polish intelligence services. On December 13, Tusk took an oath of office appointed by President Andrzej Duda to assume the role of Prime Minister.
Kamiński and Wąsik have claimed that Poland is moving toward dictatorship, and if they end up in prison, they will become political prisoners.
