French Citizen Arrested in Baku

A French citizen has been arrested in Azerbaijan on charges of espionage. Leila Abdullayeva, the ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Paris, informed France-Presse (AFP) today about the incident.

According to the diplomat, Martin Ryan, a French citizen suspected of engaging in espionage activities, was arrested on December 4, 2023. A Baku court has placed him under detention for four months as a precautionary measure.

The head of Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission also mentioned that the French embassy in Baku has been promptly notified about the arrest of the alleged agent of the Fifth Republic's foreign intelligence.
