Heavy Equipment Removed from Jerusalem's Armenian Quarter
Heavy equipment, which was previously brought to the "Cow's Garden" area in Jerusalem's Armenian Quarter, has been removed as of yesterday. This was confirmed by Hakob Sevany, a member of the Armenian Assembly, during a conversation with a reporter from NEWS.am.
Sevany stated that representatives from the Jerusalem City Hall also visited the site. He added that there have been no incidents since the last attack on protesters on December 28.
"For now, the situation is calm, and no new issues have arisen," he noted.
It is worth recalling that on December 28, a group of masked individuals armed with clubs, tear gas canisters, and other means attacked Armenians who were present in the "Cow's Garden" area of Jerusalem's Armenian Quarter.
It should be noted that the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Nourhan Manougian, had previously handed over the "Cow's Garden" area to an Israeli businessman under a 99-year lease. This decision had caused quite a stir, and after a long struggle, the contract was successfully canceled. However, later, bulldozers belonging to the company that was leasing the area began demolishing a part of the disputed territory. When protesters attempted to stop these actions, armed Israeli settlers appeared and tried to disperse the protesters, but they were unsuccessful.
