Iranian-backed Shia Group Leader Killed in US Strike in Iraq: Pentagon
The United States has confirmed that it conducted a strike against the leader of the Iraqi Shia paramilitary group "Harakat al-Nujaba," Mushtak Javad Kazim al-Jawari, also known as Abu Takwa. Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder stated, "US military forces took "necessary and proportional actions" against the leader of Harakat al-Nujaba," he said.
According to Ryder, the strike resulted in the death of Abu Takwa and one of his associates. He noted to reporters that Abu Takwa had been involved in planning and executing attacks on American forces.
"It is important to note that the strike was carried out in self-defense, that no civilians were harmed, and that no infrastructure or facility was struck," he added.
Harakat al-Nujaba is an Iranian-backed group operating in Iraq and Syria.
