January 3 Becomes Coldest Day in St. Petersburg's History

On January 3, the average daily temperature in St. Petersburg, Russia, reached minus 22.2 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest recorded temperature during instrumental measurements of hydrometeorological phenomena. This was reported by TASS.
The severe frost has surpassed another record, as the third day of 2024 has officially become the coldest, according to the city's chief meteorologist, Alexander Kolesov, on his Telegram channel.
"On January 3, the coldest day prior was in 2003, when the temperature did not rise above minus 18.0 degrees during the day," Kolesov wrote. He also noted that new records are expected, with temperatures currently at minus 34 degrees in the northeastern part of Leningrad Oblast.
