We Must Seek Ways to Lift the Blockade by Turkey and Azerbaijan on Armenia, Says Robert Kennedy Jr.

The U.S. government must mobilize the international community to take action and ensure the safe return of ethnic Armenians from Artsakh to their homeland, as well as to protect their right to self-determination. This was stated by Robert Kennedy Jr., who has announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States, in a video message published on social media, according to Sputnik.

He noted that since 2020, Azerbaijan has been conducting ethnic cleansing against the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh without mercy. The political figure pointed out that in September of this year, Azerbaijan launched an offensive operation that resulted in the displacement of 120,000 Armenians, the entire population.

“While the world’s attention is focused on Gaza and Israel, no one is hearing about the mass expulsion of the entire population from one of the oldest Armenian territories,” Kennedy Jr. expressed his dissatisfaction.

He believes that mere condemnation of this ethnic cleansing is not enough. In his opinion, the current situation can be changed. “This is a situation where peaceful sanctions could work. The U.S. still has leverage in this region and can use that power to mobilize all peoples in the area to overcome this humanitarian tragedy. We should also seek ways to lift the blockade of Armenia by Turkey and Azerbaijan. Armenia is a landlocked country and must have access to ports in neighboring countries,” the American politician stated.

He assured that if elected president of the United States, he would support the restoration of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh. “As President of the United States, I will use diplomacy, our moral authority, our economic leverage, and sanctions to restore Armenia. I want to contribute to the restoration of the sovereignty of Armenia and Artsakh. I wish to do this through peaceful means. Instead of starting a new war somewhere, I would like to end one of the wars,” said the nephew of former President John Kennedy.

It should be noted that the presidential elections in the U.S. are scheduled for November 5, 2024.
