VIDEO: "Citizens Should Keep Their ID Card at Home After Receiving it, So it Doesn't Get Lost" – Pashinyan
“Our strategic goal is to create a digital citizen or digital profile for citizens, and here the biometric passport has very significant importance,” stated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a government meeting.
“This is a fundamental but first step, and we need to create a mechanism to identify individuals in the digital space and be certain that the person who is presenting themselves to the state body is indeed who they claim to be,” he said, adding that a similar process should be applied to electronic signatures.
He also emphasized the importance of enabling various transactions to be freely conducted via phone and the internet. “The next step should be the acceptance and issuance of mobile ID, which means that once a person receives their ID card, they should keep it at home to prevent loss, and in all other cases, we should provide the opportunity for them to use their identification data through a digital mobile application,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of using the biometric passport as a travel document in cases where it is not possible to use the identification card.
