Poland Plans to Dissolve State Media
Poland is set to dissolve all state media following President Andrzej Duda's decision to halt their funding. This was announced by Poland's Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bardhukimieos Sienkiewicz.
The companies in question include “Polish Television,” “Polish Radio,” and the “Polish News Agency.” According to Sienkiewicz, the relevant decision will allow for the ongoing operations of these companies after funding ceases, facilitate necessary restructuring within them, and prevent job cuts for employees working in these organizations.
It is important to note that on December 20, the Polish Ministry of Culture dismissed the heads of state media, whom the Polish opposition accused of bias and propaganda. The reason given for the dismissals was the “need to restore the impartiality of mass media.”
Under the law, Polish state media are funded by public investments and are required to adhere to an impartial editorial policy.
