Lavrov on the Russian Military Base in Armenia

The Russian military base is located in Armenia under a treaty, and discussing its appropriateness within the territory of the Republic is deemed harmful. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with TASS.
“We consider discussions on the appropriateness of the deployment of the 102nd Russian military base in the territory of Armenia to be harmful. The agreement on its deployment was signed on March 16, 1995, based primarily on our countries' national interests and the common goal of reinforcing stability in the South Caucasus,” the minister said.
According to Lavrov, Russian soldiers today are “a key element in ensuring peace in this region.”
