Embargo Lifted: Sweden Grants Export Licenses to Turkey

Sweden has lifted the embargo on military product exports to Turkey and has begun granting export licenses to Turkey in the field of defense industry, reports Yeni Şafak, citing the statement from Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burak Akçapar.

“Following the parliamentary committee's approval of Sweden's NATO membership proposal, a notable development occurred. It became known that Sweden has started to grant export licenses to Turkey in the defense industry after a long-standing embargo,” the newspaper states.

In October 2019, Sweden imposed an embargo on military supply exports to Turkey. On December 26, the Turkish Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee supported the NATO membership document for Sweden by a large majority, and the document has been submitted for discussion in the General Assembly.
